To lay down the procedure for Safety in Quality Control

This procedure is applicable to Quality Control Department

• Take precautions as per MSDS of respective chemical
5. PROCEDURE
5.1 The Laboratory Standard requires laboratories to develop a Chemical Hygiene Plan to protect laboratory worker from harm due to hazardous chemicals. Workers to clean the spillage.
5.2 General safety guidelines include, but are not limited to the following:
5.3 Never work alone in the laboratory
5.4 Never mouth-pipette, or use mouth to start a siphon
5.5 Wear eye protection in the laboratory at all times, including over contact lenses.
5.6 Prescription glasses do not qualify as laboratory eye protection when worn alone
5.7 Never sniff any chemicals
5.8 Practice personal hygiene rules, (e.g. always wash hands before leaving the laboratory)
5.9 Put on the laboratory coat while working in the laboratory
5.10 Review all chemical safety information mentioned in the Safety Data Sheets (SDS), prior to use or transport of any chemical
5.11 Know the location and proper use of emergency equipment including eye wash, fire alarm and safety showers
5.12 Be aware and follow the appropriate emergency procedures: including evacuation routes, spill clean-up procedures and proper waste disposal
5.13 Ensure all eye wash stations, emergency showers, fire extinguishers, and exits are always unobstructed and accessible
5.14 Properly label containers and chemicals
5.15 Store hazardous chemical in appropriate cabinets
5.16 Promptly clean up all spills and wastage in the laboratory. See Spills and wastage handling procedures for your laboratory for details
5.17 Don’t use any broken glassware
5.18 Ensure that all instruments are properly earthed
