1. OBJECTIVE
To lay down the procedure for preparation and standardization of 0.1 N Cupric Nitrate
2. SCOPE
This procedure is applicable to Quality Control Department
3. RESPONSIBILITY
• Officer QC
• Manager QC
4. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
• Proper handling the apparatus.
• Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment when handling this chemical.
5. PROCEDURE
5.1 PREPARATION
5.1.1 Weigh out 23.3 g of cupric nitrate 2.5 hydrate or 24.2 g of the trihydrate using a balance.
5.1.2 After measuring the required amount, transfer it into a 1 liter volumetric flask.
5.1.3 Add a small amount of distilled water to the flask and swirl to dissolve.
5.1.4 Then fill up the flask with distilled water until the mark and mix well.
5.2 STANDARDIZATION
5.2.1 Transfer 20.0 mL of the solution to a 250-mL beaker. Add 2 mL of 5 M sodium nitrate, 20 mL of ammonium acetate TS, and sufficient water to make 100 mL.
5.2.2 Titrate with 0.05 M edetate disodium VS. Determine the endpoint potentiometrically using a cupric ion-double junction reference electrode system.
5.2.3 Perform a blank determination, and make any necessary correction.
5.2.4 And calculate the normality by the following formula:
ml edetate disodium (corrected for blank) x M edetate disodium
