Procedure for Operation and Cleaning of Tray Dryer

1. OBJECTIVE
To lay down the procedure for operation and cleaning of Tray Dryer

2. SCOPE
This procedure is applicable to Production, in the Tablet section

3. RESPONSIBILITY
• Supervisor/ Machine Operator
• Production Pharmacist/ Above

4. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
• Normal electrical precautions should be followed.
• Gloves, eye and ear protection are required.
• While loading and unloading use hand gloves

5. PROCEDURE
5.1 Growing procedure is followed as per SOP.
5.2 Production person shall ensure the cleanliness of the machine & area and ‘CLEANED’ label on it.
5.3 Operation:
5.3.1 Load the materials that need to be dried onto the trays and close the door firmly.
5.3.2 Set the temperature as per the BMR and turn on the electrical supply.
5.3.3 Start the blower and heater.
5.3.4 Run the dryer for the prescribed length of time to achieve the required degree of drying
5.3.5 Fill the “Machine Usage Log Book”.
5.4 Cleaning:
5.4.1 Switch the tray dryer switch off.
5.4.2 Remove the “under use” label and attach a “to be cleaned” label.
5.4.3 Use a dry duster to remove the dust on the body of the dryer cabinet.
5.4.4 Remove all the trays inside and place these in the washing area.
5.4.5 Ensure that all of the dried material has been removed.
5.4.6 Clean each tray with potable water then use a nylon scrubber and clean with a suitable surfactant e.g., 0.1% Teepol solution.
5.4.7 Clean each tray with 5 liters of potable water followed by 3 liters of purified water.
5.4.8 Remove the water using a compressed air blower.
5.4.9 Dry all trays with a lint free dry cloth.
5.4.10 Record the activity in logbook.
5.4.11 Affix “CLEANED” label.
