Operating, Cleaning and Calibrating Procedure for Moisture Analyzer

1. OBJECTIVE
To lay down the procedure for operation and cleaning of Moisture Analyzer

2. SCOPE
This procedure is applicable to Quality Control Department

3. RESPONSIBILITY
• QC Analyst
• Manager QC

4. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
• Do not put the water, a metal pin or any other things in the instrument.
• Do not open the Balance case.
• Avoid to leave anything on the weighing pan after use

5. PROCEDURE
5.1 OPERATION
5.1.1 Switch on the mains.
5.1.2 Check the level of the instrument by checking the air bubble in level indicator is exactly in the middle of cross hairs.
5.1.3 If the level indicator needs resetting, level it with the help of three leveling screws.
5.1.4 Switch the instrument on with the < On/Off> key.
5.1.5 Press to select the method.
5.1.6 Select the method by scrolling with the help of scroll buttons and selecting the desired method by pressing
5.1.7 The initial status with closed automatic sample chamber show only empty pan handler.
5.1.8 The status display flashes as empty pan handler and empty pan and prompts to load the empty sample pan and tare.
5.1.9 Place the empty sample pan in the sample pan handler by inserting the pan in sample pan handler. Ensure that the tongue of pan handler fits exactly in the slot of draft shied element
5.1.10 Press the key. This sets the balance installed in moisture analyzer to zero. For tarring, the automatic sample chamber closes briefly and then opens again.
5.1.11 After tarring, the status display flashes indicated by Sample handler, sample pan and material and prompt you to place the sample in the sample pan.
5.1.12 Place the sample in the sample pan distributing it evenly in the sample pan.
5.1.13 The status display flashes and prompts you to start the drying process.
5.1.14 Press key.
5.1.15 The motorized automatic sample chamber closes. The instrument starts drying and measurement.
5.1.16 At the end of the drying time, an audio beep is heard and the sample chamber opens automatically.
5.1.17 Read the moisture content of the sample in the display and the same is printed.
5.1.18 Carefully remove the sample pan handler from the automatic sample chamber.
5.1.19 Press the key to delete the measurement result from the display. The instrument is now ready for the next measurement.
5.1.20 Clean the Pan handler and the sample pan with the help of a soft tissue paper.
5.1.21 If no more samples are being analyzed Off the machine.
5.2 CLEANING
5.2.1 Ensure that the main switch is off.
5.2.2 Open the lid and remove the disc and clean it properly with wet lint free cloth and followed by dry lint free cloth.
5.2.3 Clean the inside area and outer surface of the Moisture Analyzer Balance using dry lint free cloth.
5.2.4 After cleaning assemble the disc holder in draft shield.
5.3 CALIBRATION
5.3.1 Balance Calibration by Weight
5.3.2 Switch “ON” the mains.
5.3.3 Switch “OFF” the instrument.
5.3.4 The display is blink with 8.8.8.8
5.3.5 After few seconds the display will show 0.00g
5.3.6 Perform internal calibration
5.3.7 For internal calibration use the pre-calibrated set of dead weights
5.3.8 Place 5gm on the weighing pan.
5.3.9 Note the weight
5.3.10 Calculate the difference between the weight in certificate and the observed weight.
5.3.11 Repeat the above step by using 50gm and 100gm
5.3.12 Record the reading
5.3.13 Tolerance should be ± 5mg
5.3.14 Calibration of Moisture Analyzer Balance
5.3.15 Issue the required quantity of Di-sodium Tartrate from QC department.
5.3.16 Now add the material on pan approx. 2.0 g of Di-Sodium Tartrate.
5.3.17 Close the chamber and start the test.
5.3.18 Note down the display reading with tolerance limit as given in Annexure, Calibration Record of Moisture Analyzer.
5.3.19 Enter the details in Annexure
5.3.20 Frequency: one month ± 3 days.
5.3.21 Temperature of the Moisture Analyzer Balance will be calibrated by outside agency, once in a year.
