Operating, Cleaning and Calibrating Procedure for Conductometer

1. OBJECTIVE
To lay down the procedure for operation, cleaning and calibration of Conductometer

2. SCOPE
This procedure is applicable to Quality Control Department

3. RESPONSIBILITY
• Officer QC
• Manager QC

4. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
• Proper handling the instrument.
• Don’t switch on the main board with wet hands

5. PROCEDURE
5.1 OPERATION
5.1.1 Powder the meter ON
5.1.2 Rinse the electrode with de-ionized or distilled water before use to remove any impurities adhering to the probe body.
5.1.3 Maintain the temperature of the sample 25 °C ± 2 °C, unless otherwise specified in the individual monograph and dip the electrode along with the temperature sensor in to the sample.
5.1.4 When dipping the electrode into the sample, the sensor or the glass bulb of the electrode must be completely immersed into the sample, Stir the probe gently in the sample to create the homogeneous sample.
5.1.5 Allow time for the reading to stabilize.
5.1.6 Record the observed value of conductivity and temperature in the respective test data sheet or operational log book of conductometer.
5.1.7 Wash the electrode in the deionized water after use and store the electrode in the storage solution.
5.2 CLEANING
5.2.1 After completion of testing switch “OFF” the instrument.
5.2.2 Switch “OFF” the mains.
5.2.3 After each use, rinse the electrode thoroughly with distilled water or de-ionized water
5.2.4 If there is build-up of solids inside the measurements area of the cell, these should be removed very carefully with a cotton bud soaked in solution, taking care not to touch the metal parts of the inner cell.
5.3 CALIBRATION
Frequency: Daily
5.3.1 Rinse the electrode with distilled water. Press CAL key, the meter enters the calibration mode.
5.3.2 Dip the electrode into the calibration solution, the display automatically shows current calibration standard (e.g. 1413 µS/cm)
5.3.3 Press ENTER key to confirm, the default calibration value begins flashing.
5.3.4 Press arrow keys to set each digit, press ENTER key to confirm. When the setting is completed, ensure that display value matches your calibration standard.
5.3.5 Press ENTER key to begin the calibration. Wait for the reading to stabilize. The display will show “END”. Calibration is completed note in calibration log book.
